I love films, and I love film fests. I live in San Francisco. The city that has much to offer when it comes to film festivals. There are several of them going on every month. Just in this month of July there are 5 -all of them worth attending.
I decided to blog about every one of them. Many of us cannot go to all the festivals, so at least we can read about them! Here are the festivals that are taking place in SF in July:
Brainwash Drive-In/Bike-In/Walk-In Movie Festival
Internationall Working Class Film and Video Festival/LaborFest
San Francisco Silent Film Festival
San Francisco Frozen Film Festival
and-my favorite!- San Francisco Jewish Film Festival

I think your idea is great, a lot of people follow film festivals even though the might not be able to go, so I'm sure you'll get readers from that crowd. I would add a couple of things to your blog: first, other people's blogs about the same topic and, if you want to be more community oriented, just focus on the SF festivals; second, I would try to get permission to post the trailers of the movies you are reviewing or that are being featured. If you can't (it might take some time) you can always link to the movie Web site as you said, but video on your site would be great. Finally, you could create a RSS feed with stories and reviews that are published about the festivals and movies. Some news web sites have a link that says "who's blogging/linking to this story" and that would drive traffic to your site.
